This has been circulating Tumblr and I'm just wondering where it came from?? It definitely sounds like Taylor. http://musicistaylor.tumblr.com/post/108355147408/listen-this-version-of-shake-it-off-and-die

I'm pretty certain that's Taylor. It sounds exactly like her in both her talking and singing voice which would be hard to fake. (assuming this is the same Shake it off acoustic version I heard floating around on tumblr) The question is where did it come from as it's clearly a different vocal than we hear on the CD or any live version and she even changes the word moves to rules. So I'm pretty confused by it but I figure at some point she must've performed it in front of friends or something. It sounds like it was recorded in a studio though which is the confusing part. Unless of course we're dealing with a professional impersonator here. lol

I've seen people calling this 'Shake It Off (Demo)', and should it be legit that's actually what makes the most sense to me. The instrumentation is really rough, as well as her voice, and the changes in tone and all that were also very experimental, not to mention how she says one extra word in the "break break break" part and all that. (And the 'shake it aw', which sounds so weird to me idk why haha). I was tempted to assume this was some buried background vocal, but I don't hear the "shake shake shake!" on the original version after the bridge, so I think that, unless this is not Taylor, it could be a Demo.

Someone told me it was a demo as well. And I thought that made so much sense but if it is how was it found?! And you're not alone on hearing the Shake it aw, I heard it too.

Yeah, if it's actually a demo I wonder how it was found. You'd think that, at this level, Taylor would be way beyond letting stuff like this leak, but then again she probably didn't intend on doing anything with it so it might be not as well-protected as any new songs that didn't make the cut for 1989, for example. This is all speculation, of course, because I don't even know if it's legit, but yeah.

To be honest, the 'shake it aw' part makes me cringe haha It's so weird, and it makes me wonder if this could actually be some buried background vocal someone found while taking apart the tracks/stems of the original song. It has some quite different things, though, so that kinda undermines this theory.

Yeah, she says different things like she changes the words from moves to rules and it definitely sounds like her but not like any live version I've ever heard. Someone said it's from stems and then someone else said it was the demo because it was playing in the background of some behind the scenes of the 1989 tour video which would mean it didn't really leak but that didn't make any sense to me because first of all it had surfaced by December and also why would it be playing in full completely clearly like that with no talking or anything? So I just don't know weather I believe that but it being a demo seems to be the only thing that makes sense and it definitely sounds like her but in all this time it hasn't been taken down which is weird even if it was in the background of a video so I feel like the only way we'll know is if someone asks her.

Interesting stuff here! I really do think it's her but like you all said it's unclear on what it's from.

Yeah I've heard it too and I'd be convinced it was a demo except some parts sound a little off. The way the guitar loops towards the end feels a little strange to me, I don't quite know why. The last 30 seconds just... I don't know. I'm getting less and less convinced. The thing is, it's getting easier to isolate instrumentals and vocals from music and given that there have been so many live performances, plus you can splice it with other people's vocals that sound a little like Taylor. At this point I'm quite sure Taylor's demos would be quite heavily protected. And the whole thing is a little too well recorded, I think.

I think I found the guitar track used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUxSoQeNh8E
Chances are it's fake, I guess.

This is actually really interesting! Thanks for sharing! I wonder how they got the voice track, though. There are some word changes and parts that weren't there!

It mentions someone named Allison in the post? Does that have anything to do with it?

I heard something not long ago that made me go THAT'S FROM THE "DEMO"! But now I can't find it... This may have been part of it. It starts around 7:22. https://www.grammypro.com/professional-development/video/listening-session-taylor-swift-1989-part-3

I don't think it sounds anything like that tbh and it was floating around long before that came out or was even filmed. So if it was then someone would've had to have stolen the real demo. And it's the whole thing. It doesn't even sound like anything from the making of 1989 video that she put out before the album came out, to me so I think it was somehow faked but it sounds so real like her exact voice and only the guitar part has been found, which is really weird. It's like where did the voice come from? It sounds purposely recorded for sure so it almost makes you think they stole the real thing except that it was so popular on YouTube and never taken down, which it definitely would've been if it had been real no matter how popular usually super quickly (although maybe not as quickly as the regular song if they don't recognize it as copyright). So I guess it's kind of a mystery. haha

Ok so I *think* I may have solved the mystery on this...I was just talking about this with someone today. They said it was definietely a demo and I said I wasn't so sure because while it definietely sounds EXACTLY like her to the point where it'd be impossible to fake it, I was hestant to believe she'd just let something like that leak and not take it down so I thought it must be either an edit or some recorded live version we didn't know about or even a leaked recording of her performing it for friends or fans or something like that. So I started googling it and I saw someone on tumblr say that it was an edit from a series called Pop goes live by a group called the Country club martini crew who makes super believable acoustic edits for a lot of artists! They also made one of I don't wanna live forever with just Zayn and one for Sing by Ed Sheeran that sound like them too! I assume they layer together background vocals from the actual song and/or live performances of it by the artist (and maybe some of them can imitate some artists voices well enough to make a few different parts to add like in SIO?) over a guitar (or piano) track that one of them does or got from somewhere which explains why it sounded exactly like her but the guitar track (or a super similar one) was found to be one from a cover someone did. I can't confirm it because it seems like every link to it was taken down other than ones that don't label it as being by them (like the tumblr link in this post), which makes sense tbh, but on one post where it wouldn't play it listed those same alternate lyrics for the song. So yeah, I don't know if anyone else figured that out by now but in case anyone was still wondering I think that's where it came from! Mystery *possibly* solved! Smile

Like for instance, I don't think they took anything from here but here's a video where you can hear all the vocals and instruments separated out from each other and you can here her singing Shake it awe I think because the F sound probably goes away when a vocal is isolated. haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZWQov0TjMs
