I just heard the song (it leaked on tumblr) and OMG I love it! I like that it sounds much closer to Out of the Woods instead of Shake it Off. I'm super pumped for 1989 now! What does everyone else think of it?

It took me a listen or two, but I love it! I wasn't sure about it when I heard the preview. It's so fun though! I can't wait for the album!

I feel like it's a really good intro song for this album "like, hey welcome to New York. This was my inspiration this time", you know? If anything, I think that the name of the album should've been geared toward this because it's clearly really important to her and it inspired her so much. On that note, with the exception of OOTW (minus the chorus), the reparative nature is getting concerning. Personally, I think that when artists repeat things, whether it's in a chorus or a bridge, it's because they weren't able to come up with anything else and they're just like "meh, just hit repeat" SIO, WTNY, and OOTW are all quite repetitive. OOTW I forgive because it actually fits the songs idea. These two... Well.. I can't say I'm too impressed. I really hope that every song won't be like this and she just chose to release to the "weaker" songs on the album. I'm really like 60-40 right now for 1989..

THIS!!!!

that's what's getting on my nerves already. For her to say that this is the album she's been most proud of is somehow cynical. repeating is in my eyes not impressive, just annoying. but it definitly does what (from her site) it should've done! it's selling, even in europe!

I also like the fact that we can all come here and state our own opinions without being criticized for it. If you read some of the comments and replies on TC, you'd think they have a verbal stoning station set up.

I do find the repetitive natural of W2NY really annoying. I just not that into the song as a whole either, I guess. The repeating didn't bother me as much in OOTW or SIO. I'm just scared that every song on the album is going to be really repetitive. Like Taylor, what are you doing? All your fans know you can write a hell of a song without repeating the same line a zillion times .

I agree! People are SOOOO cruel on there if you don't like a song. It's like you can't be a fan unless you absolutely love every single song. It's ridiculous Rolling Eyes

I agree, it doesn't fit like it does in OOTW.
Annnd indeed, why the repeating thing? Okay, 1 or even two songs but please not every song! She can write really well, so why make it sound like you were lazy and just repeat everything..

I like WTNY...But at the same time it's one of my least favourite songs Taylor has done. Like, I like the lyrics enough, (save the chorus) and I don't mind it musically, but I just don't like it as much as so many other songs she's put out. In my opinion, it is maybe the weakest song on 1989. I understand she wanted it as an intro into the last two years of her life, but I wonder what other perfect songs were cut for WTNY. Like, I can't help but wish she put Wonderland or New Romantics on the regular edition. SIO and WTNY are my least favourite songs on the album. If it was up to me, SIO would be replaced by New Romantics and Welcome to New York by Wonderland-or a similar song that didn't make the final cut... I would've made them both bonus tracks.

I agree. I think W2NY is one of her weakest songs on 1989, however, it always makes me really excited and happy when I listen to it even though I don't like New York. For me, at least, it captures that sense of wonder when something is brand new to you. I think she made it the first track to excite everyone for the rest of the album.

Yeah, I definitely think it's the weakest on the album and it's my least favorite on 1989 too but I actually still do like it and I understand it's purpose as the album opener and the deeper meaning of how moving somewhere new can change you, I just like the rest of the album a lot better because it's just that great and I love it so much! And I agree that Shake it off is the second weakest. As much as I love it, it's just not as strong as the others and I'm always tempted to skip it because it just doesn't fit musically like the others do but I don't because I still love it despite that and I don't think the bonus songs could replace them or any of the others on the album because they tell a story and as great as the bonus songs are, they just wouldn't fit in with that. Wonderland because it would be a repeate of I know places story-wise, You are in love isn't part if her story and New Romantics although it could fit after Clean I think Clean was a better song to end on because New Romantics is almost like the start of a new story so it works as the end of the bonus songs with Clean being the end of the regular version so that they're both ending songs. So I understand why they're bonus songs even though I think they're really good and way better than her usual bonus songs.
