So we did it! 1989 sold over 1 million copies (1.287 mil) in the first week, and it's also the only album in 2014 to go platinum, besides Frozen, which technically came out in 2013.

Here's an article about how awesome Taylor Swift is:

it's amazing what she achieved in such a short time! i'm not suprised that it's over 1 million. but i hoped it would break the 1,3 million mark.

I didn't expect it to sell more than a million! Honestly, I think the Polaroid thing worked — it got people to buy more copies.

Yeah indeed, I saw on twitter someone who bought several albums just to get all the sets...

When I saw that the prediction for this album was like 750,000, I was like yeahhh... no way. Considering the fact that Speak Now and Red both hit 1 million in the first week and how much Taylor promoted this album, I expected it to hit a million. I think it's so funny how experts are so surprised how much it sold- in this situation, it's the artist to be considered, not the previous album sales of the year.

I know, I predicted it too. I mean her last two albums sold over a million in a week and this one is her highly anticipated first pop album and she just gains more and more fans all the time so I knew it would definitely be able to go platinum in a week and beat her last two. I mean, even people who aren't fans probably bought it (or sampled it at least and then decided to buy it since they can't get it free on spotify anymore) to see how it turned out.
